Alanis Morissette accused her former tour manager of extortion in a new lawsuit.
Morissette, 52, alleged in a new legal petition obtained by Us that she is the “victim of a calculated blackmail campaign orchestrated by a disgruntled former tour manager” named Keren Urinov.
The “Ironic” singer claimed Urinov was temporarily hired in 2025 to manage one of her tours. That July, Morissette and her team were scheduled to travel from Farnborough Airport in the U.K. to Spain for a concert. At the airport, a British Border Force officer flagged one of the bags for further inspection.
At the time, Urinov allegedly told British Border Force officials that she owned the luggage, which was seized for allegedly containing marijuana and xylazine. Morissette alleged in her lawsuit that Urinov is threatening to tell British authorities that the musician committed drug trafficking if she doesn’t employ her for 15 years for a “massive compensation.”
“Morissette will not be coerced into delivering her blackmailer an extraordinary payday,” the court documents read. “She sues to expose Urinov’s scheme and hold her accountable.”
Morissette stated that Urinov initially told officials that the seized bag was hers before she was arrested. During police questioning, Urinov claimed the bag and its contents belonged to her. After revealing an Israeli license for medical marijuana, Urinov was released and the bag was returned.
Urinov ultimately rejoined Morissette on tour before the entire crew flew back to the U.K. that same day. Upon arrival, Urinov was detained by Border Force officers again for further questioning about the luggage contents.
Morissette claimed Urinov later told her about the incident and stated that the alleged drugs were hers.
Months after the tour ended, Morissette allegedly received “extortionate letters” from Urinov and her attorney. The manager reportedly threatened to file a lawsuit against Morissette for unspecified claims if the singer refused to tell British law enforcement that the reported drugs belonged to her. Urinov also allegedly asked Morissette to hire her for a fixed-term, full-time employment contract for 15 years and to arrange for an immigration attorney to help her obtain a United States work visa. Urinov asked for additional compensation if a visa could not be obtained.
But the singer refused her “brazen” demands, per legal docs. In the lawsuit, Morissette further claimed that she wasn’t interested in hiring Urinov on those terms because she was allegedly a “terrible manager.”
“[She] brings this lawsuit reluctantly. She is aware of the attacks on her character that may ensue,” her filing reads. “But [she] will not agree to work with an incompetent blackmailer for the next 15 years or pay her a ransom under the gun. She has no choice but to sue.”
Morissette is seeking compensatory damages over $75,000 and an additional punitive award. Urinov has not publicly addressed the accusations. Us reached out for comment.
