The truth about living Lohan. Aliana Lohan — formerly known as just Ali — revealed in a new interview her plan to reinvent herself as a musician, and spoke about what it’s like growing up in the shadow of her very famous older sister, Lindsay Lohan.
Chatting with Cosmopolitan, the 22-year-old, who looks so grown up and different in a stunning accompanying photoshoot, said that she is looking to make a name for herself in the music industry: “This is what I wanted to do since I was 8 years old.”
Though she previously recorded the 2008 single “All the Way Around” at age 10 — as documented on her short-lived E! reality series, Living Lohan — Aliana is ready to give it another go with a fresh new “Western emo” sound she says is inspired by Johnny Cash and Nancy Sinatra.
In addition to teasing future tunes, Aliana opened up about surviving the glaring spotlight that Lindsay’s headline-grabbing antics cast on her family.
“It’s just crazy how things can get out, and be twisted and completely fabricated,” the brunette beauty, who anonymously worked as a model (simply known by her first name) in Korea for eight months at age 17, told the magazine. “That was mind-blowing to me.”
“Being born in a family that’s public, that’s just been my life,” she added. “I’ve never gone out of my way for attention.”
Aliana’s 30-year-old sister rose to fame at age 11 when she made her motion picture debut in Disney’s The Parent Trap. Years after becoming a household name as a sweet tween and teen star, LiLo started to gain more notoriety not because of her acting roles but because of her bad girl behavior — including a handful of court battles and rehab stints for alcohol addiction. Most recently, the former child actress got into a public fight with her fiancé, Egor Tarabasov, and admittedly lied about being pregnant.
Despite wanting to separate herself from the narrative of Lindsay’s polarizing personal life, Aliana told Cosmo that she is willing to stand up for her sis, even if it means going head to head with Hollywood’s current It Girl, Jennifer Lawrence.
As previously reported, J. Law joked about the “Rumors” songstress’ troubled past during a December 2015 appearance on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert: “I get Lindsay Lohan–grade exhaustion but without any drugs or alcohol,” she said. Aliana fired back by tweeting, “I never breathe life into negativity but I stand by my family. Disappointed in Jennifer Lawrence. You lost a fan.”
“That was literally something that came over me where I was like, ‘You know what, that’s my sister. I gotta say something,'” the Long Island native explained of the incident. “At first, I was like, ‘S–t. Are people gonna jump on this?’ I’m like, ‘You know what? It’s OK.’ Because I just wanted her to know that you should stand up for other women, you should help people and not put them down, ever.”
Asked about Lindsay’s recent live video chat with fans, during which the Freaky Friday star said she isn’t releasing new music any time soon because “as much as I want to sing every day, I don’t want my sister to hate me,” Aliana brushed off the comment by telling Cosmo, “I think some things were twisted around.”
“I’m a very focused person,” she stated. “All my family knows, ‘Aliana’s singing.'”
