“Not Skinny But Not Fat” podcast host Amanda Hirsch is speaking out after her sponsored Polymarket ad mentioning Lindsay Clancy’s triple murder case sparked immense online backlash.
“Posting about the Lindsay Clancy trial in the same breath as a brand partnership was completely insensitive, wrong and out of character for me,” Hirsch, 37, wrote in a Sunday, September 6, social media statement. “I should have known better, and I feel sick that I didn’t see that in the moment.”
Hirsch claimed in a since-deleted social media caption on Friday, September 4, that Polymarket “predicted the verdict would be not guilty” via a sponsored post for the betting site. The influencer added, “Are you surprised? #Polymarketpartner.”
Clancy, 36, was charged with murder following the deaths of her three children in January 2023. (Lindsay and ex-husband Patrick Clancy shared Cora, Dawson and Callan, who died at 5, 3, and 8 months, respectively.)
Lindsay has admitted to strangling her kids to death before jumping from a second-story window in an apparent suicide attempt. She is now paralyzed from the waist down. She pleaded not guilty, however, with her defense team arguing that she should not be held criminally responsible due to a documented history of postpartum mental health struggles including depression, anxiety and bipolar disorder.
The prosecution argued the mom was aware of right and wrong at the time of the killings, claiming it was a premeditated act.
After more than five days and 30 hours of deliberations, a Massachusetts judge declared a mistrial on Friday after the 12-person jury remained deadlocked 11-1 and unable to reach a unanimous verdict.
In light of the case’s mistrial, Hirsch’s Polymarket content came under fire and she swiftly deleted the original post.
“As a mom, this case has really affected me,” Hirsch, who shares two kids with husband Yaron Weiss, added on Sunday. “I’ve been following it so closely, talking about it constantly and feeling heartbroken over every part of it. I became so consumed that I completely lost perspective and didn’t stop to think about how grossly inappropriate it was to discuss something this tragic in that context.”
Hirsch further claimed that she “made a terrible judgment call” by sharing the sponsored content in the first place.
“I feel so f***ing awful about that. I know deleting it doesn’t erase it,” she concluded. “Believe me, I’m horrified by the choice I made and please know this lapse in judgment does not represent who I am as a person, I am so deeply sorry.”
