Amy Duggar King’s father, Terry Jordan, filed for divorce from her mom, Deanna Duggar, on Monday, December 21, in Washington County, Arkansas.
“It has been quite a year to be a Duggar,” Amy, 29, told Entertainment Tonight. "The family has gone through a lot of heartache this year, but we will get through it. Right now, I just have to take lessons from all I've gone through this year and focus on my marriage."
The aspiring country music singer — who married Dillon King in September — is the niece of TLC’s 19 Kids and Counting stars Michelle Duggar and Jim Bob Duggar, and often appeared on the hit reality show.
She revealed also that while she wasn’t entirely surprised by her parents’ decision to divorce, how her father broke the news was a bit of a shock.
“They have had an on/off relationship for a long time,” she admitted to ET. “It's sad they can't be a team. The divorce papers came, and my dad told me through a text on Christmas. I don't think he meant to, he just didn't know what to do. I was devastated. It hit me so hard."
According to the divorce documents, Terry claims that his ex-wife had treated him “with such indignities as to render his condition in life intolerable.” They separated on Sunday, December 20, with Terry filing for divorce a day later.
Despite everything, Amy revealed that through it all, her husband of three months has been her sole support system.
"I'm glad I have Dillon to lean on and be my rock,” she gushed. “Relationships are fragile. You have to communicate. If you keep everything bottled up, it's all going to crack one day."
Meanwhile, Josh Duggar, Amy’s cousin, admitted earlier this year to molesting his younger sisters. He also admitted to using the cheating website Ashley Madison, after it was hacked and information released.
