Does a wedding get more country than this? Ashley Monroe (of the country trio Pistol Annies) married her baseball player boyfriend, White Sox pitcher John Danks, in a sunset ceremony against the romantic, scenic backdrop of the Smoky Mountains on Thursday night, Oct. 24., they confirm to Us Weekly.
After the happy occasion, the bride told Us exclusively: "I am the happiest I've ever been in my entire life." A rep adds, "They are just so happy. The emotion shines through in this image."
The couple tied the knot before 45 guests at Blackberry Farm in Walland, East Tennesee — the same site of Kelly Clarkson's nuptials on Sunday, Oct. 20 — about 40 minutes from where Ashley was raised. Country megastar Blake Shelton officiated the wedding, while his wife Miranda Lambert — Monroe's Pistol Annies bandmate — served as the bride's maid of honor and wedding planner. Fellow country singer Jessi Alexander was a bridesmaid.
Lambert also played a big role in helping Danks design the engagement ring and plan his wedding proposal in Baltimore in Sept. 2012. The two couples often go on double dates, Monroe told Us earlier this year, "[Miranda] and Blake are best friends, and me and John are, too."
The groom wore an Armani tuxedo, while the bride said "I do" in a custom-designed gown by celebrity favorite Haute Hippie, a first for the brand which had never custom-designed a bridal dress prior to Monroe's wedding.
27-year-old Monroe, a native of Knoxville, Tenn. and Danks, 28, started dating in 2011. The singer met the professional baseball player through a mutual friend, the owner of a Chicago bar, following a show. "[The owner] said, 'Oh there’s a guy I want you to meet! He’s a great guy.'"
This is the first marriage for both Monroe and Danks. On Friday morning, the newlyweds boarded a plane bound for Chicago, where the singer will open for Hunter Hayes at the Rosemont Theatre later that night.
