The Housemaid author Freida McFadden finally revealed her true look.
McFadden, 45, showed off her real hair after sharing her true identity as Dr. Sara Cohen. In a photo she shared with Today on Monday, April 13, McFadden took off her strawberry blonde wig and revealed her tight brunette curls while wearing her white lab coat.
“It became clear to me that the mystery around my real name was taking on a lore of its own, and I decided it was time to share it,” she told the publication of the picture, noting that she used to wear wigs because she has “no idea how to style [her] hair.”
“Over the years, I have seen people online tease that they knew my real name and were going to tell everyone,” she added. “It made me laugh because it’s not like I’m in witness protection! I just always wanted the focus to be on my books, not my identity. I write because I love doing it and I love sharing my work with my readers.”
McFadden continued, “I’m a very private person and will stay that way, but I have been so honored by the outpouring of love and support.”
Her natural look comes after she opened up to USA Today earlier this month about her real name and why she chose to use a pseudonym.
“I’m at a point in my career when I’m tired of this being a secret. I’m tired of people debating if I’m a real person or if I’m three men,” she explained. “I am a real person and I have a real identity and I don’t have anything to hide.”
McFadden shared that she decided to go by a pen name “until” she was ready to “step back from [her] doctor job.” Now that she’s “only working once or twice a month,” she was ready to share her true name.
“Even though I haven’t told my real name until now, I feel like I have shared the real me all along and everything I’ve told them has been the truth,” she noted.
McFadden also shared that when her coworkers found out, they were “really nice about it” and kept her secret.
When she’s working at a hospital, she’s treating brain disorders. McFadden is also the author of The Housemaid’s Secret, The Boyfriend, The Teacher, The Inmate and Never Lie. The Housemaid was recently turned into a movie with Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried as its stars.
