Still smiling. Ben Higgins revealed in a new interview that his romance with fiancée Lauren Bushnell is running full steam ahead despite the fact that they called off their wedding in a recent episode of their reality TV show.
As viewers saw on Tuesday night’s episode of the Bachelor alums’ Freeform series, Ben & Lauren: Happily Ever After?, Higgins, 28, told Bushnell, 26, that he wanted to press pause on their plans to tie the knot during a particularly emotional couples counseling session.
“That’s one of the things that’s great about doing a show post-Bachelor, it really does highlight the confusion that life is and trying to get to know each other post-show, and trying to figure out how to get married and make everything work in everybody’s best interest,” Higgins told Entertainment Tonight on Wednesday, November 16. “We are together, happier than ever — no plans to break up!”
When it comes to his therapy confession, Higgins has no regrets about sharing his feelings with Bushnell. “We’re in one of the best places we’ve ever been in our relationship — probably the best place,” he told ET. “We’re feeling less stressed. We’re feeling less pressured. We’re able to laugh and smile more. … That decision at that point led us to every decision we’ve made to get to today.”
On Tuesday night’s episode of the duo’s show, Higgins explained to Bushnell why he thinks it’s a good idea to hold off on saying “I do.”
“You’re the woman of my dreams. The last thing I want to do is for us to rush that,” he told a teary-eyed Bushnell. “This thing sped up real fast, and we haven’t had a second to breathe. Now it’s time not to rush anything else.”
The pair finally got the R&R they needed just a few weeks ago, when they took their first off-camera vacation together to Turks and Caicos.
“We both came back just clearly refreshed, at ease, and we really needed it,” Bushnell told ET on Wednesday. “Sometimes you have to listen to your relationship, listen to each other and yourself, and know — hey, we need some time here. Thankfully, we’re blessed enough that we get to take a vacation. … It was exactly what we needed. The adventure aspect of it all and doing things together, paddling, snorkeling — we kind of hit the reset button.”
Ben and Lauren: Happily Ever After? airs on Freeform Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET.
