Is she walking down the aisle soon? Billy Ray Cyrus hinted at daughter Miley Cyrus’ upcoming wedding to Liam Hemsworth, during an appearance on the Today show on Wednesday, June 1, to promote his show Still the King.
“They’re really happy together right now,” Billy Ray said of the off-on couple. “They know if they need a preacher, they’ve found one,” he joked, referencing his role on his new CMT show, where he pretends to be a pastor. He also revealed that the career runs in his family: “My grandfather was a Pentecostal preacher,” he said.
Neither Miley nor Hemsworth has confirmed their wedding plans, but a source previously told Us Weekly that they want to exchange vows Down Under. The Hunger Games actor, 26, first popped the question to the “We Can’t Stop” songstress, 23, back in June 2012 after three years of off-again, on-again dating. The pair ended their engagement in September 2013 but remained close. They appeared to rekindle their romance and became engaged again after New Year’s 2016, when Miley visited Hemsworth in his native Australia. After the trip, she was frequently seen wearing her original engagement ring.
However, in an interview with TV Week Australia in April, the actor denied the rumors. “I am not engaged, no,” he told the outlet. But then in May during a sit-down with GQ Australia, he said of his relationship status, “People will figure it out. They already have. …They’re not dumb.”
Hemsworth opened up about previously calling off the engagement in 2013, telling GQ Australia it was actually healthy for their relationship. “Of course it was hard, man,” he said. “But we were both going in different directions and it’s just what needed to happen. We were both super young and it was a good decision at the time — we both needed that.”
Now, the couple seem to be back on track. As Us Weekly previously reported, Miley even purchased a four-bedroom home in Malibu to share with her future husband. They traveled to Australia again in late April and were checking out places to exchange vows. “They were discussing potential venues and looking around,” a source told Us at the time.
