Back to business as usual! Bindi Irwin shared a sweet photo of herself on Friday, Dec. 4, getting cozy with a bird back at her family’s zoo in Australia, just a little over a week after winning Dancing With the Stars.
“Home,” she captioned the shot, in which she grins widely at a rare bird perched on her hand. Irwin, 17, is wearing a khaki safari shirt in the picture — a far cry from the sequined costumes she wore on the dance floor for the last three months.
Irwin also shared a close-up snap of a large snake in the grass.
“Spending time with this sweetheart @AustraliaZoo today,” she captioned the photo.
The animal conservationist and her DWTS partner, Derek Hough, took home the coveted Mirrorball Trophy on Tuesday, Nov. 24, to win Season 21.
“I am so speechless right now! I can’t believe it!” she told Us Weekly shortly after her win. “The glitter all over the floor may be from my mind just exploding into glitter! No, I am so honored and so blessed to be here. And this entire experience has felt like the most beautiful gift.”
But even though Irwin made it known that she couldn’t wait to return to her hometown — and her mom Terri, 51, and brother Robert, 12 — she’s brought a bit of DWTS back with her.
On Thursday, Dec. 3, the Australia Zoo shared a photo of an adorable koala bear named after Hough, 30.
“Check out @derekhough the #koala!” the caption reads. “Although he may not be as smooth on the dance floor or as light on his feet as his namesake, he sure is good at melting hearts! You can spot him at our koala ‘mums and bugs’ area throughout the day where the koalas are always keen to pose for a photo!”
On Australia’s morning show Sunrise, Irwin revealed that the dance pro will come face to face with his animal counterpart very soon.
“I am excited because Derek will be visiting Australia very soon to meet his own namesake,” she said.
