“He’s a part of it because everything we do in life we do together,” the 26-year-old said of the couple’s relationship. “If I’m working on a movie, he helps me with my character; I do the same with him. Picking out a coffee table. What we’re going to eat. He’s a beautiful writer—he’s written a lot of stuff for us. And he’s got a great barometer and he knows me, so he will tell me if it’s not as good as it can be.”

Lively and Reynolds, 37, first met while shooting their 2011 film The Green Lantern. The couple have kept mostly tight-lipped about their lives together, but the Gossip Girl alum did hint she had family on the brain. “He’s going to be a great father and leader and patriarch—he’s so meant to be all of those things,” she said of Reynolds. “The fact that he lived so much before we got together, he’s the exact realized person that he should be. And so I get to share my life with the person he’s become, and we get to grow from there.”

The twosome secretly wed at Boone Hall Plantation in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina in September 2012 — after a few hitches along the way! According to Lively, Martha Stewart was called in for some last-minute help.

“Our wedding was becoming a disaster, and we didn’t know what to do, so we called Martha! She said, ‘Don’t worry. I’ll handle it,'” Lively explained to Vogue. “She sent her team down to save us. And then she called her friends who have a home in South Carolina and set us up at the most amazing getaway. This is the day of our wedding!” (Pictures from the couple’s rustic ceremony were published in Martha Stewart Weddings magazine three months later.)

Unfortunately, a little disaster did take place during the reception. While friend Florence Welch performed, one of the sparklers given to guests burned Lively’s Marchesa gown. “And later, my dress was hanging up and Ryan said, ‘Isn’t that beautiful?’ I said, ‘What?’ And he pointed to the burn,” she told the mag. “My heart just stopped, because it was such a sensitive little subject. And he said, ‘You’ll always remember that moment with Florence singing and the sparklers. You have that forever, right there, preserved.’ Now that’s my favorite part of the dress.”

“Wife” is a somewhat new label for Lively, but there’s more to her than that. The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants actress’ next chapter will be launching her own lifestyle website Preserve — and yes, she’s aware that some backlash may come with it. (The name perhaps comes from her sparkler incident.)

“I’m sure there will be plenty of people who will say horrible things. I’m sure this interview will be picked apart. But you can’t worry about it,” she said of possible negative feedback. “People like to gossip. They bond over it. They don’t bond over complimenting famous people. I’m always the first person to defend Gwyneth Paltrow. Or any woman in a position of power, like Martha Stewart or Oprah, who gets burned,” she continued. (Paltrow has her own lifestyle website, Goop.) “Because they have paved the path for so many other women who are doing something they believe in.”
