Bobby Brown and his family — and his former in-laws — gathered to mourn the loss of the late Bobbi Kristina Brown at her funeral service at Saint James United Methodist Church in Alpharetta, Ga., on Saturday, Aug. 1. On Friday night, they paid their respects at a private wake.
An onlooker tells Us Weekly that Bobby, his wife Alicia, Pat Houston and the Houston family arrived in black limos at 10:15 a.m. Nick Gordon was not in attendance. “The whole family looked grief stricken as they arrived,” the witness says.
According to the onlooker, Bobbi Kristina’s casket was brought in two hours before her loved ones arrived. Mayor Kasin Reed made his way into the church at 10:45 a.m.
Roads six blocks in each direction were shut down for privacy, the witness adds to Us. Police were on hand to check IDs and credentials as fans lined up in the outer perimeter holding up signs.
Bobby Brown and the late Whitney Houston’s daughter was found unconscious and facedown in her bathtub on Jan. 31. She was put in a medically induced coma for nearly six months, and tragically passed away at age 22 on July 26.
“She is finally at peace in the arms of God,” the Houston family told Us in a statement at the time. “We want to again thank everyone for their tremendous amount of love and support during these last few months.”
Following the news, Bobbi Kristina was honored on Whitney Houston’s Facebook page. “It is hard to say goodbye,” a statement read, alongside a photo of Whitney and Bobbi at a happier time. “The family thanks everyone for their loving thoughts and prayers. As Bobbi Kristina would say: ‘The wind is behind me and the sun is in my face.'”
Bobbi Kristina’s body will next be flown to New Jersey to be buried next to her famous mom at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield, N.J.
