An 8-year-old boy was found unconscious in the shallow end of Pennsylvania’s Knoebels Amusement Park swimming pool Saturday, July 16, and was later pronounced dead at a local hospital.
“A young boy was found unresponsive by a lifeguard who immediately initiated emergency care,” reads a post to the park’s official Facebook page. “Additional care was provided and he was transported to Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. The Knoebel family and team members had been hoping and praying for the best possible outcome, but are saddened to have learned from local authorities that the young boy has passed away.”
According to The Associated Press, the boy, identified as Yassin Boudriss of Lebanon, was found in 3 feet of water at around 3 in the afternoon. Montour County Coroner Scott Lynn told The AP that Boudriss may have suffered from a medical condition that contributed to his death.
The boy’s family has not released a statement, and no other circumstances surrounding the death have been made immediately available, though police officer Anthony Kopitsky told local station Penn Live that the incident appeared to be accidental in nature.
This is the first tragic drowning incident at Knoebels’ swimming pool since 2011, when a 6-year-old died.
An autopsy is scheduled for Monday, July 18.
