Ben Savage is known for his role as Cory Matthews on Boy Meets World and its spinoff series Girl Meets World, but the actor has since stepped out of the spotlight.
Savage’s breakout role as Cory came when Boy Meets World premiered in 1993. The fan-favorite show ran for seven seasons, ending in 2000. Years later, Disney Channel rebooted the series with Savage reprising his role. Girl Meets World aired for three seasons from 2014 to 2017.
While chatting with Us Weekly exclusively in 2022, Savage said he would “never say never” to bringing back the Boy Meets World franchise again.
“I’ve learned enough to know that you literally never know what can happen in this business,” he teased. “Every day is a roller-coaster, and it’s always exciting.”

However, some tension between Savage and the rest of the Boy Meets World cast says otherwise.

The Recap Podcast
Savage, along with Danielle Fishel, Rider Strong and Will Friedle, first had the idea of a Boy Meets World recap podcast in 2019. When the show, “Pod Meets World,” officially launched in 2022, Savage had decided to step away from the project.
“At the end of our conversations, Ben said, ‘I just don’t think it’s for me.’ And we get it. So we’re respecting his decision,” Fishel told Us in July 2022. “And if he eventually wants to come on, we’ll leave that door open.”
Feuding With the ‘Boy Meets World’ Cast
In 2023, Boy Meets World stars Fishel and Friedle claimed that they hadn’t spoken to Savage in years.
“He disappeared — I wish I knew why, to this day,” Friedle said in a Variety interview at the time. “We didn’t have a fight. There’s no falling out. There was no animosity. He just woke up one day and decided ‘I don’t want this person in my life anymore.’”
The actor continued, “I tried and tried and tried for months, until finally my wife was like, ‘Why are you doing this to yourself? He obviously doesn’t want you in his life.’”
Despite the tension, Fishel said she will always have love for Savage.
“Ben and I may be estranged right now and we may have our complaints about each other, but I will always love Ben and want what’s best for him. I don’t think this is the end of our story — but time will tell.”
A Budding Political Career
In March 2023, Savage announced his plans as a Democrat for California’s 30th congressional district. However, he did not advance past the primary.
Strong addressed Savage’s run for congress during an April 2023 episode of the “Pod Meets World” podcast.
“When it comes to Ben, the only thing that I feel is worth saying is when we were younger Ben and I basically didn’t agree on much politically,” he said. “We often found ourselves on exact opposite sides on almost every issue.”
Strong noted he would “wait and see” what Savage had to say.
“I do not know Ben’s political stances on a lot of things right now,” Rider went on. “I just know in our history we didn’t always see things the same way, so that’s kind of all I’ve got to say right now.”
Becoming a Dad
Savage wed wife Tessa Angermeier in 2023. They share a daughter born in November 2025.
Fishel told People in June 2026 that she and Savage used to talk how much he looked forward to fatherhood.
“I like imagining this phase of life that he’s in now,” she said. “It makes me sad sometimes when I think about the fact that I would love to just know, like, ‘How’s it going? What’s happening now? What are the milestones that are being checked off?’”
Stepping Back From Acting
While Savage has never announced an official break from acting, his most recent role was in a 2022 TV movie Girl in the Shed: The Kidnapping of Abby Hernandez.
