It could have been Brad’s first baby! Melissa Etheridge opened up about searching for a sperm donor for her two kids back in the late ’90s and revealed that her close pal Brad Pitt was almost her children’s biological father.

Etheridge, 54, wanted kids with her then-partner Julie Cypher and began the process of selecting a sperm donor. “Well, actually, [Brad Pitt] was such a good friend of mine. And we did consider it,” the rock singer told Australia’s Studio 10 talk show. “And yet, I looked and I saw how badly he wanted children and I thought, ‘I don’t want to share this with someone who really, badly wants children because my children don’t need another parent — they have two.’”

Ultimately, the “Come to My Window” singer went with a different contender. Cypher gave birth to their daughter, Bailey, in 1997, and their son, Beckett, in 1998. After much speculation about the father, Rolling Stone revealed in 2000 that their biological father is David Crosby of Crosby, Stills & Nash.

“It’s one of the reasons why David Crosby and his wife are so perfect — because they [already] had children. They were looking to do this as a gift,” Etheridge told Studio 10. “Of course, my teenagers now are like, ‘I could have had Brad Pitt [as my dad]! My son said, ‘I could’ve been amazingly handsome.’”

Etheridge was close friends with Pitt, now 52, in the ’90s and even performed at The Big Short star’s wedding to Jennifer Aniston in 2000, although the Grammy winner recently admitted she hasn’t spoken to Pitt in almost a decade. (Pitt later split from Aniston in 2005 and got together with his Mr. and Mrs. Smith costar Angelina Jolie. The couple married in 2014 and now have six children together.)

The environmental activist split from Cypher in 2000 and went on to have twins, Johnnie and Miller, via an anonymous sperm donor with partner Tammy Lynn Michaels in 2006. The pair parted ways in 2010, and now Etheridge is married to Linda Wallem
