Letters of conservatorship filed to the Los Angeles Superior Court in 2009 and obtained by Us Weekly dictate that, as conservator, Jamie, 66, can dictate who can spend time with Britney, 37. “The Conservator shall have the power to restrict and limit visitors by any means,” the documents state. Jamie also has the power to employ security guards to watch over his daughter 24/7, the docs state.

Now, the “Toxic” singer, who completed a 30-day mental health program last month, is ready to take back the reins after being under the conservatorship for a decade since a very public breakdown. “Britney doesn’t care if Jamie is left in control of her finances with the conservatorship of the estate remaining,” a source exclusively tells Us. “However, according to Britney, the conservatorship of her personal life needs to end. She is finished with Jamie having control of her personal life and wants to have her own control over that.”

Britney and her mother, Lynne Spears — who recently filed a request to be notified of conservatorship matters — attended a court hearing on Friday, May 10, during which a judge ordered an expert evaluation in the “first step” toward potentially ending the conservatorship.

“Britney has known her rights all along and knew she could ask the court for a hearing to end the conservatorship. She is now exercising that right,” a source tells Us. “Britney will be meeting with a court-appointed investigator that will question her about the conservatorship. The investigator will also meet with Jamie Spears.”

The source continues: “This is going to be a very long process in which the investigator will also consult with Britney’s doctors under the guidance of Jamie Spears, and Britney’s court-appointed lawyer. Ultimately, it will be up to the judge to determine if Britney will no longer be under the conservatorship.”
