Bruce Willis on Ashton & Demi: “We’ve Become Like a Tribe”

Bruce Willis is now happily married, but he's still not ready to let go of his ex.

"We've become like a tribe," the star says about his ex-wife Demi Moore and her husband Ashton Kutcher in the latest issue of W (on newsstands June 23).

Even the 54-year-old actor's new wife, Emma, is happy to join the extensive family, which includes his three kids with Moore — Rumer, 20, Scout, 17, and Tallulah, 15.

"I met them very early on, and I was definitely nervous because I'd never dated a man who had children and I wanted to be really sensitive to that," she says. "But I've been really blessed because from day one it's been comfortable and fun."

Because the two couples get along with such ease, Willis admits that people find it more shocking than if they were estranged.

"It's generated a lot of interest because everyone can understand resentment and envy in the breakup of a marriage, but they don't understand how I can get along with my ex like that," he says. "Demi and I made a choice to put the kids first, and we're really lucky that it turns out we all have fun together."

Still, the action star admits that he has had to work through those issues of anger and jealousy that he felt when Moore began dating the That '70s Show star, 31, in 2003. "I went from ˜F— love" to ˜Love is truly the answer," Willis says. "I spent the last 10 years single and, for the most part, unhappy. In a dark place. I never thought that being with someone else was the answer. I would say, "I'm alone, but I'm not lonely. But I was just kidding myself. Then I started hanging around Emma, and on a day-to-day basis my life became much happier."

Now, he and his wife — they married on the Turks and Caicos islands in March with Moore and Kutcher as guests — enjoy vacations with the whole family in the Caribbean, where the only tension comes from their beach volleyball games. "I still have a scar on my knee from two Christmases ago," Emma says.

Although Emma — who was engaged to Brent Bolthouse in 2005 when the two first met — has given Willis a new lease on life, he admits that he will always have feelings for his ex-wife of nearly nine years. "I still love her," he says. "And I have a lot of respect for how she lives her life."
