Cameron Diaz on Marriage and Kids: “I’m Living, Not Thinking”

Cameron Diaz
Cameron Diaz says she's not actively thinking about getting married or starting a family, but if it happens, it happens

Cameron Diaz is doing just fine on her unwed own, thank you very much.

The Annie star — who has been dating Good Charlotte rocker Benji Madden, 35, since spring — is once again addressing the always-inevitable topics of marriage and babies in the November issue of Marie Claire.

"I'm not looking for a husband or marriage or not not looking for that stuff," the 42-year-old actress explains. "I'm living, not thinking what I should or shouldn't be doing with my life."

That same attitude can be applied to her views on kids, too.

"We live in a society where everyone has kids, so they want other people to have kids. There is this culture that says celebrities are supposed to be just like us, so people think, 'I have children, why doesn't she?' But I'm not going to do something because it’s expected," she confesses. "If a family happens, then it happens. If children come to me, then I would do that, but I'm not someone who feels like she has to do something because it's expected."

Since things appear to be getting more serious with Madden, have Diaz's views on kids changed? Here's how she answered that question over the summer:

"It's so much more work to have children," she told Esquire. "To have lives besides your own that you are responsible for — I didn't take that on… A baby — that's all day, every day for 18 years. Not having a baby might really make things easier, but that doesn't make it an easy decision. I like protecting people, but I was never drawn to being a mother."

Last week, the Sex Tape star got the rumor mill going when she stepped out wearing a ring on that finger (you know, because in Hollywood that simply can't just be a piece of jewelry). Reps for Diaz and Madden have yet to comment on the engagement speculation.

So could Benji "not not" be the guy for Cameron? Guess we'll have to wait and see.
