They’re back! The first eight professional dancers who’ll appear on season 23 of Dancing With the Stars were announced on Good Morning America on Tuesday, August 23 — and we are beyond excited.
Fan favorites Val Chmerkovskiy, Witney Carson and Sharna Burgess are set to return to the hit ABC dancing competition next month, as are Artem Chigvintsev, Lindsay Arnold, Allison Holker, Sasha Farber and Gleb Savchenko.
“It’s going to be amazing!” Chmerkovskiy, 30, told GMA on Tuesday morning. “We’re going to have an incredible cast, as always. But I’m also excited for the pros. We have a lot of different pros coming back. Some pros from back, back in the day, so I’m excited.”
The Ukrainian hunk — who won season 20 of DWTS with actress Rumer Willis in 2015 — continued, “It’s a new show. It’s constantly evolving and we have a nice mix and balance of young kids that are inspired and very motivated to bring out the essence of this generation, but also we have some more classic, conservative dancers from the past as well, so I’m excited.”
As fans know, returning cast member Carson, 22, previously took home the coveted Mirrorball Trophy with her partner, Fresh Prince of Bel-Air alum Alfonso Ribiero, on the season 19 finale in 2014.
Reigning champ Peta Murgatroyd — who won season 14 with Donald Driver and season 22 with Nyle DiMarco — will not be returning for season 23, as she is expecting her first child with fiancé Maksim Chmerkovskiy, Val’s older brother.
The full cast, including the 13 celebrity contestants, will be announced on Good Morning America on Tuesday, August 30.
Dancing With the Stars season 23 premieres on ABC on Monday, September 12, at 8 p.m. ET.
