Don’t believe everything you read! Fans were getting mixed messages from Demi Lovato earlier this week when her cover story with Complex magazine was released.
In the article, the “Confident” singer, 23, said that she no longer talks to her childhood pal and former costar Selena Gomez. This left many confused, since the VMAs performer posted an Instagram selfie with Taylor Swift’s bestie on Sept. 10, with the caption, “Look at how #coolforthesummer we are.. Friends for years, #sameoldlove.”
But on Wednesday, Sept. 30, Lovato clarified her contradictory interview by tweeting, “Interviews are done months and months before the issue is published. [A] lot can change between then and now. Don’t read into the bulls—t.”
While talking to Complex, Lovato was asked if the end of her friendship with Gomez, 23, had anything to do with “a particular relationship choice of hers” (cough, Justin Bieber, cough). She replied, “Not really. Not anymore,” later adding, “When you’re young and you get older, you change and people change. You have things in common, and then all of a sudden, you don’t. It’s just a part of life.”
Noting that she doesn’t have many close celebrity friends, Lovato also said, “I have my core group, and they’re the type of people that will be there for me in the middle of the night. They’re the type of people that are like, ‘You’re being a bitch right now. Don’t talk to me that way,’ and I’m like, ‘Whoa. Sorry. I didn’t realize it.’ I don’t have anybody around me who kisses my ass.”
