Donald Trump and Kanye West may be friends now, but things haven’t always been so rosy between them. A few years before their meeting in New York on December 13, Trump body-shamed Kim Kardashian, West’s now-wife.
The president-elect, 70, discussed Kardashian’s weight when she was brought up during a conversation on Howard Stern‘s SiriusXM radio show in February 2013.
“Does she have a good body? No … Does she have a fat ass? Absolutely,” Trump said of the reality star. “And if it weren’t Kim, they’d say, ‘Wow, I don’t want to go out with her.'”
Trump also criticized Kardashian, now 36, during an interview that year with HLN’s Showbiz Tonight, which resurfaced in September. At the time, she was pregnant and expecting her first child with West.
“She’s a nice person. I’ve known her over the years. She’s really a nice person,” he said. “She’s gotten a little bit large. I would say this, I don’t think you should dress like you weigh 120 pounds.”
When the reporter replied that Kardashian “feels good about herself,” Trump added: “I think that’s great. If she feels good about herself, do it, Kim.”
Despite the past, Trump and West are apparently on good terms. The rapper, who previously said he would have voted for Trump — if he had actually voted — spoke to the mogul for 15 minutes at Trump Tower on Tuesday. A source told Us Weekly that they chatted about life and exchanged ideas. And contrary to reports, they didn’t discuss a possible ambassador role for West.
For her part, Kardashian didn’t support Trump during the presidential election. In September, she posted on her website that she was voting for his Democratic rival Hillary Clinton.
“There was a point when I wasn’t 100 percent sure I was even going to vote in this election; I didn’t want to vote blindly. But I also thought about how not voting would mean that I wasn’t making my voice heard, so I decided to talk to my closest friends and family who I love and trust, to have an open conversation about politics,” she wrote. “I found that without a doubt, I stand with Hillary. I’m with her. I believe Hillary will best represent our country and is the most qualified for the job. This year, I’m not just voting for myself, but also for my children, and I took that into careful consideration when I made my decision.”
