Donna Summer will live on through song.
The "Queen of Disco" died at age 63 and her family confirmed to The Associated Press Thursday.
Summer passed away in Florida after a battle with lung cancer, Entertainment Tonight reports. Summer was diagnosed with cancer 10 months ago and kept it a secret from the public. She only told her husband and children she was battling the illness.
Her family said in a statement, "Early this morning, we lost Donna Summer Sudano, a woman of many gifts, the greatest being her faith. While we grieve her passing, we are at peace celebrating her extraordinary life and her continued legacy. Words truly can't express how much we appreciate your prayers and love for our family at this sensitive time."
The Grammy-winning singer was known for the disco hits "Hot Stuff," "Last Dance," "Bad Girls" and many more. Many stars tweeted their condolences Thursday. Barbra Streisand, who sang the duet "Not More Tears" with Summer, said in a statement to Us Weekly: "I was shocked to hear about Donna. She was so vital the last time I saw her a few months ago. I loved doing the duet with her. She had an amazing voice and was so talented… It's so sad."
Elton John said in a statement (via CBS News), "Her records sound as good today as they ever did. That she has never been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is a total disgrace especially when I see the second-rate talent that has been inducted. She is a great friend to me and to the Elton John AIDS Foundation and I will miss her greatly."
Summer is survived by daughters Brooklyn and Amanda, her grown daughters (with husband Bruce Sudano, a fellow musician whom she married in 1980), and Mimi, her eldest daughter with first husband, actor Helmuth Sommer.
