When the duck call business is booming like it is, Duck Dynasty star Willie Robertson doesn’t exactly have much free time to spare — even for politics.
The A&E reality star and CEO of Duck Commander, the Robertson family business, tells Us Weekly that despite rumors to the contrary, he has no plans on running for Congress anytime soon.
“Yeah, I mean, I’d consider everything,” he said of reports that he’s been itching to get into the politics game. “But you know, at this point in my life, I’m really busy. Maybe we can help the country in some way, get these guys to be more efficient and all that. I don’t know. I don’t think now is the right time but who knows about one day?”
According to the Louisiana state native, the rumors of his candidacy, as reported in the Washington Examiner, came as a surprise to him.
“I came to New York and had gotten an email about it, and then within a day or so, it was everywhere,” he says. “Every show I’ve been on, I’ve been asked about it. Must be the bandana with the American flag. … I don’t see a lot of guys wearing bandanas on the floor of the house.”
Robertson’s denial comes hot on the heels of other major Duck Dynasty news — after prolonged contract negations, the cast has officially signed on for more episodes of the A&E cult show — with a few tweaks to their salaries.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Robertson family — including patriarch Phil; matriarch Miss Kay; Willie’s brothers Jase, Jep and Alan and their wives Korie, Missy, Jessica and Lisa; and Phil’s brother Uncle Si — will receive a significant salary bump for the coming season.
The new contract will bring the family more than $200,000 an episode, to be split among the 20 cast members (9 adults and 11 children), which is four times as much as they were earning during the first three seasons.
Season four of the series will kick off on Wednesday, Aug. 14, at 10 p.m. on A&E.
