Fifty Shades of Grey Gets Two Sequels Before First Film’s Premiere: Details

Fifty Shades of Grey
Fifty Shades of Grey is getting two more sequels.

Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele's love story will continue for years to come. The lead characters in the Fifty Shades of Grey film will be featured in multiple upcoming installments.

Despite the fact that the first movie hasn't even hit theaters yet, Fifty Shades has already booked two sequels, MTV reports. Due out on Friday, Feb. 13, the raunchy flick will be followed by adaptations of author E L James' Fifty Shades Darker and Fifty Shades Freed.

The announcement of the trilogy was reportedly made on Friday, Feb. 6, when the first screening of Fifty Shades of Grey took place in New York City with James and her two stars, Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson. Before fans get a chance to see the highly anticipated movie, early ticket sales have made it the fastest-selling R-rated movie in the history of online ticket seller Fandango.

Dornan, who leads Fifty Shades as the dominating hottie Christian told Access Hollywood that while he doesn't want to be defined by the role, he's willing to continue to play the character going forward.

"I want a career that isn't trying to get [James] to write eight more books for me so I can keep working," the Irish star, 32, explained. "But it's nice that people think that we're right for it and that's only a good thing. If [a sequel] is happening, yeah."

For her part, Johnson told The Telegraph that she is thankful that she is willing to do more sequels. The Anastasia actress, 25, said that she is happy to continue her work in the role, "which is lucky as I also have to."

Dornan and Johnson's enthusiasm for their Fifty Shades roles is likely coming as a relief to filmmakers. Casting the movie was famously dramatic, as original star Charlie Hunnam dropped out of his part as Christian and the two current stars faced considerable backlash from fierce fans who imagined the roles with different actors.
