Gayle King Jokes About Falling in Love With Tom Brady After Reflecting on Ex-Husband’s Affair

Gayle King is shooting her shot with Tom Brady.

“You’re very good at manifesting,” King, 71, told Brett Goldstein during a recent CBS Mornings interview when discussing how the Ted Lasso star wrote his latest Netflix rom-com, Office Romance, for costar Jennifer Lopez.

Goldstein, 45, joked that he’s in the middle of writing a movie for King.

“Do I fall in love with Tom Brady? No, does he fall in love with me?” she asked. Goldstein replied, “He does now!”

King added, “I just think he’s one of the nicest people.”

Fans might be obsessed with the onscreen chemistry between Goldstein and Lopez, 56, due to their Office Romance movie, but King’s love life has also been making headlines as of late.

The journalist appeared on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast last month and detailed the day she discovered ex-husband William Bumpus was having an affair with one of her close friends in June 1990.

“I said, ‘I can’t believe that you are here and that you are doing this,’” King recalled, adding that she sounded “so pitiful” when confronting them.

King stayed calm at the time because her two kids were present. (King and Bumpus share now-adult children Kirby and William Jr.)

“I was thinking, ‘The kids are here, I don’t want anybody to know,’” she continued. “That was my main thought, ‘I don’t want anybody to know.’ That would not happen to me today.”

Bumpus initially apologized for the affair in a 2016 statement. He also spoke out after King’s “Call Her Daddy” interview.

“My deepest apologies to Gayle, to our daughter Kirby and her husband, Virgil, to our son William and his wife, Elise, and to our three grandchildren, for the pain I caused decades ago. Those actions were mine,” Bumpus’ statement read. “I have long owned [my actions] — including publicly in my own words in 2016, which still stand.”

He added, “Gayle has every right to share what was a painful chapter that changed the trajectory of our marriage and our family nearly 40 years ago. I respect her right to tell her story, and that’s where I’ll leave it.”

King later noted that she was “surprised” by Bumpus speaking out.

“That was a very painful time. But people need to understand that anyone who has been through it knows how painful it is,” she told TMZ on May 28. “But I also know that you can go through it and get through it on the other side.”
