Giuliana Rancic is weighing in after ex Jerry O’Connell raised eyebrows with a new revelation about their split — more than two decades later.
“Have you guys heard? Apparently my ex-boyfriend has been talking about our breakup publicly after 22 years,” Rancic, 51, said in an Instagram video posted Thursday, July 23. “Hmm. Imagine that.”
Rancic hinted that O’Connell’s “memory is just a little fuzzy” when it comes to the details of their breakup. Despite being “on vacation,” Rancic caught wind of O’Connell’s recent interview about them because her email was “blowing up.”
Instead of giving a statement, Rancic said she will be doing “a deep dive” on the drama in “a 40-minute podcast,” teasing, “Jerry, you are so invited. We’d love to have you.”
The former couple dated from 2003 to 2004. O’Connell, 52, was asked about the relationship during a recent episode of Kelly Ripa’s “Let’s Talk Off Camera” podcast.
Ripa, 55, read a passage from Rancic’s 2015 memoir, Going Off Script, in which she claimed O’Connell told her through an intercom, “Nope, sorry, homegirl. Things change, but you take care, OK?”
O’Connell, for his part, couldn’t “deny that [he] said that” and admitted to being a “terrible boyfriend” to Rancic.
“[Another woman] was inside my condominium [when] Giuliana Rancic wanted entry into my condominium,” he told Ripa. “Thank goodness, buzzer, gate, security. I paid a pretty hefty homeowners’ fee for these things. Cameras and everything.”
O’Connell offered his side of the story.
“I said, ‘I did not know you were coming. You can’t come here unannounced,’” he continued. “Notice no one had a key, so the relationship was not like that. There was no warning, and I didn’t want someone coming in because I didn’t want any confrontation.”
O’Connell did not specify who was with him when Rancic visited. He dated Spice Girls member Geri Halliwell after Rancic and has since found love with now-wife Rebecca Romijn.
While discussing his split from Rancic, O’Connell claimed their relationship “was [already] in trouble” by the time they parted ways. He also recalled public speculation that he was a “cheater.”
Years after their breakup, O’Connell said he has run into Giuliana, who is married to husband Bill Rancic, and described the“funny” and “awkward” way he’s approached her at the gym.
O’Connell recalled going “nose-to-nose” with Giuliana and talking about missing her in a “weird” voice, which he said “annoy[ed] her so much.”
