Gwyneth Paltrow is setting the record straight when it comes to her political beliefs.
“I notice with my own husband — who is the best person ever in the world — he’s so progressive,” Paltrow, 53, said during the Tuesday, June 2, episode of her “The Good Podcast,” referring to her partner Brad Falchuk.
“Like, he has such a sweet heart and he wants to make sure everybody is looked after,” she continued of Falchuk, 55. “I’m pretty centrist and my husband thinks I’m a Republican. Which, I’m not a Republican.”
She added, “I don’t feel anything right now, to be totally honest with you. I feel I’m completely an Independent.”
During the same Tuesday episode, Paltrow told guest Trae Stephens — co-founder of the AI defense company Anduril — that the current political and cultural climate in the U.S. is “so charged.”
“Without that sort of open, respectful dialogue, I’m not sure we can fix any of these problems that we’re seeing in the country,” Stephens said of the country.
“I couldn’t agree with you more,” Paltrow added. “And I think in this climate, you know, sometimes I’m like, ‘Can you just listen to this?’ It’s become so binary, I think. And I am trying to, in my journey through being an American right now, trying to, I don’t know, I guess sort of weave together lots of different points of view, and also to get out of that place of, like, righteousness and anger and fear.”
Paltrow — who said “I do” to Falchuk in 2018 after the pair met on the set of Glee in 2014 and following her “conscious uncoupling” from singer Chris Martin — has previously discussed her husband’s progressive views, even going so far as to credit him for her feminism.
“Before I go, I just want to say a good thank you to my manager, my husband, Brad Falchuk, who is the most feminist man I know, the most loving, who lets me be with myself every day” Paltrow said in 2025 while accepting the Sherry Lansing Leadership Award at The Hollywood Reporter’s Women in Entertainment gala in Los Angeles.
Her husband even wrote a woo-woo mom character in The Politician, a project he co-created with longtime collaborator Ryan Murphy, with his wife in mind.
“The way [my character is] as a mother is most closely based on me,” Paltrow told Elle back in 2019 of the role. “He was also borrowing from other aspects of my life.”
The Goop founder continued at the time, “In the 90s, when I was coming up, it was a very male-dominated field. You used to hear, ‘That actress is so ambitious,’ like it was a dirty word … my ambition has been unleashed.”
