Jennie Garth has worked hard for her bangin' new bod.
After her husband Peter Facinelli filed for divorce in March after 11 years of marriage, the 40-year-old Beverly Hills, 90210 alum was left devastated and hurt. But Garth escaped to her farm in Santa Ynez, Calif., and the move inspired her to make a change.
A friend of the actress tells Us Weekly that in addition to eating healthy, "She did a lot of outdoor activities: running, hiking and riding her horse."
And that's when she wasn't sweating it out at local gym Cold Iron Barbell three times a week.
"We don't use machines here. It's all free weights," co-owner Shannon Stewart tells Us of the 90-minute sessions. "We like to do circuits: She'd push over a tractor tire, then do push-ups, then jump rope, do deadlifts and run for a bit."
Dr. Eric Braverman, author of The Younger (Thinner) You Diet, estimates Garth has lost 20 pounds in the last three months. She has now reclaimed the same figure she had in 2007 while rehearsing six hours a day for Dancing With the Stars.
"I'm just taking care of myself: Eating less, exercising more, drinking a lot of coconut water," she told Us on Aug. 23 at Old Navy Denim Pop-Up Bar event in L.A.
"I eat a lot of Greek yogurt: Greek yogurt in the morning, salads and proteins the rest of the day and maybe a cupcake if I've been a good girl," Garth explained. "I don't believe in depriving yourself of things you want."
Now, the mother of daughters Luca, 15, Lola, 9, and Fiona, 5, is ready to show off her new figure.
"Before she used to be like, 'OK, let's cover me up," says a Garth pal. "And now she's more open-minded about having fun with her clothes. She's feeling good in her skin.
