Jax Taylor has denied the speculation that he is holding up the proceedings for his ongoing divorce from Brittany Cartwright.

“Jax has been wanting to move this case forward to completion for a long time. The idea that he is the reason holding up the divorce is completely false,” Jax’s lawyer Mark Vincent Kaplan exclusively told Us in a statement on Wednesday, July 29. “Jax is doing everything he can to move forward.”

The attorney claimed that Brittany’s side was underprepared going into the exes’ recent court date.

“He participated in an all-day conference only to be informed upon arrival that Brittany had no documents and no financial documents prepared, which rendered the entire process and the hearing useless,” the lawyer alleged. “Jax believes it’s in everyone’s best interest, especially their son’s interest, and is hopeful Brittany’s side will achieve that goal. It’s impossible to settle a case when only one party is seemingly motivated to do so.”

A source close to Brittany tells Us, “The statements suggesting that she is responsible for delaying their divorce are simply not true. Brittany has participated in this process in good faith, and remains committed to reaching a fair resolution for everyone involved, especially their son.”

The insider claims that Brittany and Jax’s divorce has been “delayed on multiple occasions,” citing “unresolved financial issues” and Jax’s stints in rehab. (Over the years, Jax has been candid about seeking treatment for his mental health. In 2024, Jax checked himself into rehab. He returned for a 90-day program in summer 2025.)

“She will continue addressing these matters in court, where they belong, rather than through the media,” the source tells Us. “Her focus has always been on protecting their son, resolving this matter fairly, and moving forward with her life.”

Us had reached out to Brittany’s spokesperson for comment.

Jax, 47, and Brittany, 37, tied the knot in 2019 while the couple starred on Vanderpump Rules. The pair welcomed son Cruz, now 5, in 2021. Three years later, Jax and Brittany — who were gearing up to make their reality TV return on The Valley — announced that they had decided to separate after five years of marriage. Brittany ultimately filed for divorce from Jax in August 2024.

While their divorce has yet to be finalized, Jax and Brittany’s have been working toward amicably coparenting Cruz.

“We’re working on the coparenting situation. We’re trying to make it better,” Brittany exclusively told Us in March. “It’s not easy. There’s just so many different things that go into it where it’s not the best, but it is better than it was two years ago. That’s a plus.”

Earlier this month, Us reported that Jax was spotted cozying up with his and Brittany’s former publicist Lori Krebs. The pair were spotted together in Mexico as they hugged and showed PDA at the resort’s pool. A source told Us that Jax and Lori started dating after their respective breakups. (Lori has never publicly identified her then-husband.)

“Jax and Lori’s relationship developed over the past several months after they grew closer while supporting one another through some of the most difficult periods of their lives,” a source told Us. “What began as a longstanding friendship gradually evolved into a relationship. There was never a romantic relationship before that, despite years of speculation.”

Jax and Lori have not publicly addressed their relationship. Brittany, for her part, broke her silence later that month.

“All I’m going to say about this at this moment is I will be speaking my truth — the truth — on this matter very soon whenever I’m ready,” she said during a July 17 appearance on her “When Reality Hits” podcast. “As of right now, I am focusing on me and the most important thing in my life, which is my beautiful son. And as of right now, I’m just trying to protect my son and my peace and very soon I will be telling [my story].”
