Jax Taylor is ready to put his contentious divorce battle with Brittany Cartwright behind him.
“Although I’ve seen statements in the press attributable to Brittany that Jax is dragging his feet, nothing could be further from the truth. Jax has put in all of the hard work and done the heavy lifting to get his life back on track, and is trying to resolve this matter in a timely fashion,” his powerhouse attorney, Mark Vincent Kaplan, exclusively told Us on Tuesday, October 13.
In court documents obtained by Us hours prior, Taylor, 47, asked a judge to declare him legally single while he and Cartwright, 37, continue to hash out a divorce settlement that covers financial, property and support issues.
Kaplan said he had been “fully prepared” to work out settlement details during a conference with Cartwright’s legal team before the recent filing, but it was unsuccessful.

“We went there fully prepared, only to learn that the other side was not ready to settle. In any event, Jax had requested Brittany agree to dissolve the status of their marriage, which you can do in California prior to the other issues being solved, given how much time has gone by since the case was filed, and we received no response from the other side,” he told Us.
Cartwright’s alleged silence prompted Taylor to file his request to be single.
“Consequently, I decided I’m going to file this with the court rather than be held captive to whatever agenda the other side has to keep this matter from being timely adjudicated. It’s very difficult to move a case forward when one side’s dragging their feet and the other side is doing whatever they can to have the opportunity to reunify themselves with their future. Jax is trying to reunify himself with his future, and unfortunately, there’s been some action by the other side which has interfered with that,” Kaplan continued.
Kaplan said Taylor is looking out for not only his best interests, but his son’s too. The Vanderpump Rules alums are parents to one child, Cruz, 5.
“[Taylor] doesn’t think it’s good for anybody — not the parties, not the parties’ minor child. He wants to get this matter moving forward in a positive way,” Kaplan concluded.
Us reached out to Cartwright’s attorney for comment.
A source previously told Us in July that Cartwright was not the reason why their divorce remains unsettled. “Brittany has participated in this process in good faith and remains committed to reaching a fair resolution for everyone involved, especially their son,” the insider shared at the time.
In the latest filing, Taylor said, “I desire to be divorced now. I would like to move on with my life and to do so as an unmarried person.”
The exes filed for divorce in 2024 after five years of marriage. Taylor is now dating Lori Krebs, his and Cartwright’s former publicist.
“I love [Lori] to death. You can’t help who you fall in love with. Everybody deserves to find happiness,” he told Page Six in August. “I’m in the happiest place I’ve ever been, and I couldn’t be happier right now. My mental health has been so amazing since I’ve been with her.”
