Keeping her chin up. Jennifer Garner opened up once more about her split from husband Ben Affleck during an appearance on the Today show Wednesday, March 16.
“So many people just adore you, Jennifer, and I think they just want to know how you’re doing,” Today cohost Savannah Guthrie said. “If they could give you a hug, I think they would.”
“Oh, that’s very kind,” Garner, 43, replied. “People have been so kind to my whole family, and we really do appreciate it. But, you know what, we’re doing really well. Thank you. The kids are great. They’ll be getting up and going to school soon, and Ben is there and he’ll be taking them. We will make it work.”
The Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice actor, 43, also opened up about coparenting with Garner during an interview with Ellen DeGeneres, which airs later on Wednesday. “We’re doing our best for the kids,” he said, referring to daughters Violet, 10, and Seraphina, 7, and son Samuel, 4.
Garner and Affleck announced in June 2015 that they were ending their 10-year marriage. Late last month, the Miracles From Heaven actress broke her silence about the split in a revealing Vanity Fair cover story.
“I didn’t marry the big fat movie star; I married him,” she told VF. “He’s the love of my life. What am I going to do about that? He’s the most brilliant person in any room, the most charismatic, the most generous. He’s just a complicated guy. I always say, ‘When his sun shines on you, you feel it.’ But when the sun is shining elsewhere, it’s cold. He can cast quite a shadow.”
Garner also opened up to VF about Nannygate. Us Weekly exclusively revealed last year that Affleck was seeing their former nanny Christine Ouzounian. “Let me just tell you something. We had been separated for months before I ever heard about the nanny,” Garner explained. “She had nothing to do with our decision to divorce. She was not a part of the equation.”
Garner and Affleck have remained cordial since their decision to divorce, and were even spotted mingling at an Oscar afterparty on February 29. Nonetheless, Garner told Guthrie that it’s been a challenge.
“It’s not easy to go through it, period. I have found going through it in the public eye, it’s just another facet of it. For anyone, when your life shifts in any way, it’s tricky enough,” she said on Wednesday. “But I have found people to be so warm and loving that it hasn’t been nearly as bad as you might imagine.”
