‘One Life to Live’ Alum Jennifer Harmon Dead: The Emmy-Nominated Actress Was 82

One Life to Live actress and Broadway star Jennifer Harmon has died. She was 82.

The soap opera star’s family announced her death via an obituary, confirming Harmon died on Saturday, May 9. Harmon was a resident of New York, per the memorial page set up in her honor. (A public memorial has not been scheduled.)

“Wonderful childhood memories of watching her on OLTL. My condolences to all who loved her,” one fan wrote on the page, paying tribute to the late actress.

Another user replied to the memorial page, writing, “Sorry for her loss I remember her on one life to live.” The fan added, “Christ bless her and her family with 🙏.”

Fans also took to social media to share their condolences. “Soap operas are good and decent. But such a genre of stressful moments can truly wreck you emotionally. Jennifer Harmon did it all,” one user wrote via X on Tuesday, May 12. “Knew the risks of making the audience cry. How to make them connect. She will be missed.”

Harmon was born in December 1943 in Pasadena, California, and raised in New Orleans. She began her acting career on Broadway in 1965, starring in You Can’t Take It With You.

Harmon went on to star in more than 20 productions throughout her career, including The Wild Duck, The Sisters Rosensweig, The Deep Blue Sea, Amy’s View, The Dinner Party, The Glass Menagerie, Barefoot in the Park and Seascape.

During her run on Broadway, Harmon also served as the understudy for Stockard Channing, Judi Dench and Blythe Danner, among others. Harmon’s final Broadway credit was in 2012’s Other Desert Cities.

Harmon’s TV career, meanwhile, began in 1967 when she appeared on one episode of Camera Three. She went on to play Chris Kirby on How to Survive a Marriage for its entire run from 1974 to 1975, appearing in more than 300 episodes.

The actress’ biggest claim to fame on TV was portrayed villain Cathy Craig Lord on One Life to Live from 1976 to 1978. The role earned Harmon an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Actress in a Daytime Drama Series in 1978.

Harmon later starred on other soap operas including Guiding Light, Another World and Loving. She was also seen on Dallas, St. Elsewhere and Rescue Me.

Harmon’s most recent acting credit was playing Ruth on a 2010 episode of The Good Wife.
