Reality sinks in. A heavyhearted Joe Giudice said farewell to his wife Teresa Giudice as she reported to prison for her 15-month sentence in Danbury, Conn., on Monday, Jan. 5.
Teresa's lawyer James J. Leonard, Jr., told Us Weekly that Joe's demeanor was "very somber" before she left in the early hours of Monday morning.
"I think the enormity of this entire situation hit him as I think it did their entire family," Leonard said of Joe, 42. "But these are very strong people and they're gonna get through it."
According to Leonard, Joe did not accompany his wife to prison. "Joe stayed home with the girls," the lawyer told Us. "He did not come with us to Danbury."
Like her husband, Teresa, 42, was unequivocally solemn as she entered federal prison on fraud charges. "She was very stoic," Leonard told Us of the veteran Real Housewives of New Jersey star. "Whatever emotions she needed to get out, she did it prior. She had her game face on — she was ready to go."
As Us reported Monday, Giudice arrived in Danbury at 1:45 a.m., an hour and 15 minutes before check-in time began. To pass the time, Teresa ate at a local diner (a simple breakfast sandwich with coffee) close to the Federal Correctional Institution for her final pre-prison meal.
While she remains incarcerated, Joe will take care of their four daughters, Gia, 13, Gabriella, 10, Milania, 8, and Audriana, 4, before he begins his 41-month prison stint. "I know that Joe is capable of taking care of them," Leonard said.
As for Teresa behind bars? "She's gonna be just fine," Leonard added. "Her focus is on her girls."
