Poor Johnny! Pirates of the Caribbean star Johnny Depp is flying back to the United States from Australia to receive surgery after injuring his hand.
The newlywed actor, who has been filming the latest movie installment of the lucrative Pirates franchise on Australia’s Gold Coast for the past month, was not on set when he sustained the injury, but will return to the U.S. to receive treatment, Variety reports.
Local news outlet 9News tweeted a picture of the 51-year-old actor boarding a private jet in Brisbane on Wednesday, March 11, his hand held in a sling, as he prepared to jet home to Los Angeles to receive medical attention for the injury.
The actor is expected to be off set for around two weeks while he recovers from surgery but will then return to continue filming.
“The film won’t be delayed too much,” the Disney spokesperson told the outlet.
It’s not the only piece of trouble for the Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales production this week. On Tuesday, March 2, security was breached when a man dressed as Captain Jack Sparrow allegedly threatened guards with a flick knife.
The man, captured on CCTV, even went to the effort of carrying a live parrot on his shoulder. After the alleged threat, the 22-year-old fled into nearby bushland but was located early on Wednesday and charged with one count of going armed as to cause fear. He will appear before Southport magistrates court on Friday, March 27.
