Jon and Kate Gosselin Celebrate July 4th Holiday Together

Jon and Kate Gosselin came together for the sake of their children Saturday to celebrate the July 4th holiday at their sprawling Wernersville, Penn., home.

In the afternoon, Jon helped Kate picked blueberries from their backyard to make her annual festive dessert, a cake with an American flag insignia, before setting off sparklers with their kids (twins Mady and Cara, 8, and sextuplets Hannah, Leah, Alexis, Collin, Aaden and Joel, 5) at night.

Jon also spent the day riding an ATV and playing with the family's two German shepherds. The day's festivities were not filmed for the Gosselins' Jon and Kate Plus 8 reality series, as it was announced last month the TLC network has halted production until August to give the family "some time off to regroup."

Look back at other rocky reality TV romances

It is the family's first holiday since Kate filed for divorce June 22 after 10 years of marriage. Calling their marriage "irretrievably broken," she says she is willing to "negotiate a fair and reasonable" settlement with Jon. "I'm excited and hurt at the same time," Jon, whose relationship with 23-year-old teacher Deanna Hummel, will not be shown on future episodes, told TLC viewers on the June 22 episode. "I have a new chapter in my life — I'm only 32 years old."

"While I know it will be hard for them," said Kate of the effect of the separation on their children, "it will be the best and most peaceful for them."
