“Kim and Kanye are looking forward to the new year, new changes. They’re going to be great,” Cheban, 42, told Us at NYC’s Jingle Ball concert, adding that the rapper is “doing much better. We’re all looking forward to the new year.”
Addressing reports that the couple’s relationship may be on the rocks, Cheban said, “Well, I can tell you the divorce is not happening. I was so surprised when someone asked me that on a red carpet … But I’ll tell you they are definitely not getting a divorce.”
The past few months have been trying on the superstar couple. West, 39, was recently spotted out in public for the first time since he was released from the hospital following his breakdown in late November, and Kardashian, 36, has been lying low since the Paris robbery in October.
A source told Us that West’s anxiety over the scary incident contributed to his downward spiral. “He’s been shaken up ever since the robbery in Paris,” the source said. “It did a number on him as much as Kim. The mere thought that anything could happen to her sent him in a tailspin. He wasn’t sleeping and he was having nightmares about it.”
And the pair were fighting before the rapper was hospitalized, another insider told Us. “The trauma of the incident made her more hesitant to do things,” the source told Us. “Of course it strained their relationship because she hadn’t seen him.”
A friend of the Keeping Up With the Kardashians star told Us that the problems may be even more serious. “She wants a divorce,” the pal told Us. “It will take some time before she can do anything, but she doesn’t want to stay married.”
When West was hospitalized on Monday, November 21, Kardashian was right by his side and remained there throughout his stay. Says the friend, “She’s being a supportive wife” until the rapper is fully recovered.
“She cares about Kanye and feels relieved he’s getting the help he needs,” the source said, “but she’s felt trapped for a while.”
