Dream big, Yeezy. Dream big. On Saturday, Oct. 10, the same day that Kanye West performed for President Barack Obama and received some sage advice about his 2020 presidential bid, the “FourFiveSeconds” rapper crossed another item off his bucket list — by auditioning as a faux contestant on American Idol.
West, 38, surprised Idol judges Jennifer Lopez, Harry Connick, Jr., and Keith Urban in San Francisco when he stepped into the room to try out for the reality singing competition.
His song of choice? His 2005 hit “Gold Digger,” sung a cappella.
Yeezy, decked out in a black T-shirt, black jeans, a brown jacket, and gold chain, couldn’t stop smiling as he punked the judges — and walked away with the golden ticket to Hollywood.
Lopez, meanwhile, danced in her seat and tried to keep a straight face as West gave her a shout-out in the middle of his audition.
“She said I can tell you rock / I can tell by your charm / Far as girls you got a flock / I can tell by your charm and your arm / But I’m looking for the one / Have you seen her? / My psychic told me she have an ass like Serena / Trina, Jennifer Lopez, four kids,” he rapped.
West’s proud wife Kim Kardashian shared a snap of the funny incident on Instagram, with the caption, “SURPRISE!”
West's impromptu appearance at the San Francisco auditions was part of taping for the final season of the show, which will air on Fox in January.
That same day, during a Democratic National Committee fundraiser, Obama gave West advice for having to deal with “some strange characters who behave like they’re on a reality TV show.”
“Do you really think this country is going to elect a black guy from the South Side of Chicago with a funny name to be president of the United States?” Obama added. “That is crazy.”
