Kate Hudson and ex Chris Robinson reunited to celebrate son Ryder’s college graduation.
In an Instagram Story posted on Saturday, May 16, Hudson, 47, smiled as she rested her head on son Ryder’s shoulder while posing underneath the Radio City Music Hall in New York City.
Ryder, for his part, wore a purple graduation gown and black cap while standing beside Robinson. Hudson added three purple heart icons above Ryder’s head in the snap.
Hudson welcomed son Ryder in 2004 with Robinson, whom she wed in 2000. The pair divorced in 2007. Hudson was later briefly engaged to Matt Bellamy, with whom she welcomed son Bingham in 2011. The actress later moved on with Danny Fujikawa and the pair welcomed daughter Rani in 2018. Three years later, Hudson and Fujikawa got engaged.
Ahead of Ryder’s college graduation, Robinson made a rare comment about their son’s ambitions and hinted that he might plan to follow Hudson’s famous acting footsteps rather than take a step in his dad’s singing shoes. (Robinson is the lead singer of The Black Crowes.)
“He’s his own young man, so there’s that. Very proud of him. I imagine he’s going to lean a little more towards the handsome leading man time in his life and not so much the freaky, gratuitous, bohemian rock-and-roll part of his other family,” Robinson quipped in an interview with Entertainment Tonight at the Elton John AIDS Foundation Oscars viewing party in March.
He continued, “There’s a lot of life ahead of him. Just very proud of him.”
Two years earlier, Hudson opened up about her relationship with Robinson in an interview on The Howard Stern Show.
“My relationship with Chris was so beautiful and there was so much love there, but I really did grow out of it, and it was a very hard breakup,” Hudson said in 2024. “That was not an easy breakup. I was very in love with him, but it wasn’t going to be the rest of my life.”
“I was like a baby,” Hudson continued. “When my life really started to really take off and I wanted to go in different directions, we literally just weren’t in the same space to keep going.”
Hudson went on to describe Robinson as “brilliant” and “really funny” but said that he desired to live “as a nomad and an artist,” which “can be hard for relationships.”
Robinson, for his part, married Allison Bridges in 2009. The pair welcomed daughter Cheyenne Genevieve that same year before splitting in 2018. Two years later, Robinson exchanged vows with Camille Johnson.
