It wasn’t to keep warm! Ken Bone, who stole the spotlight away from Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump at the second presidential debate, opened up about his wardrobe choice on Monday, October 10.
As previously reported, Bone was one of the undecided voters who got to speak to the Democratic and GOP presidential candidates during the town hall event in St. Louis, Missouri. He asked a question about energy policy, but, really, the viewers only cared about his snazzy red sweater.
For the newly minted viral star, the outfit was his “plan B” choice. “I had a really nice olive suit, that I love a great deal, and my mother would have been proud to see me wearing on television,” Bone explained to CNN. “But, apparently I’ve gained about 30 pounds.”
“When I went to get in my car the morning of the debate, I split the seat of my pants all the way open,” he added. “I’m glad it worked out.”
Thanks to his wardrobe malfunction, #KenBone quickly trended on Twitter. “A good mustache signals a good man. #KenBone,” one commenter wrote on Monday.
A second joked: “#KenBone is gonna be on Dancing With The Stars isn’t he?”
Another person got straight to the point, writing: “#KenBone is an American treasure.”
Bone and his wife, Heather, have a young son. His Twitter handle is @KenBone18.
