Kobe Bryant has his former teammate’s back. On Thursday, Oct. 15, the Lakers shooting guard, 37, tweeted for the first time since Lamar Odom was found unconscious and subsequently rushed to a Las Vegas hospital.
“#justpray,” Bryant tweeted, along with the message: “When WE feel the need to question the support of others in moments as critical as a life hanging in the balance, then we must question the kind of culture we have created that has led US to such insensitive suspicion.”
Bryant first got news of Odom’s condition while he was playing a preseason game against the Sacramento Kings at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas on Oct. 13. He left the game early after an injury and visited Odom in the hospital.
Odom, 35, met his now-estranged wife, Khloe Kardashian, through his Lakers teammate Ron Artest, who now goes by Metta World Peace, in August 2009. They married one month later. Though they split in 2013, they are not yet legally divorced, and Kardashian, 31, is responsible for medical decisions regarding the athlete’s care.
On Thursday, Oct. 15, Odom’s children, Destiny, 17, and Lamar Jr., 13 — from his relationship with ex Liza Morales — released a statement about their father to Us Weekly, saying, “Thanks for your outpouring of prayers and support for our dad. We are here with our family and friends. We appreciate everyone respecting our privacy at this time. We ask for your continued prayers.”
