Auntie approved. Lamar Odom‘s aunt JaNean Mercer reacted to her nephew and Khloe Kardashian calling off their divorce in her latest statement to Us Weekly regarding his health condition and more on Thursday, Oct. 22.
“To our overwhelming delight, Lamar’s courageous improvement continues on the incline in Los Angeles,” Mercer tells Us in her statement. “He is beginning to gradually flourish both mentally and physically. His use of speech has increased and he’s more cognitively responsive. His medical team has executed an aggressive therapy regimen to aid in his progress.”
Odom, 35, who regained consciousness after 72 hours in critical condition, was transported from Sunrise Hospital in Las Vegas to Cedars-Sinai Hospital in L.A. this past Monday, Oct. 19.
Joining the former NBA player was his wife, Kardashian, 31, who’s remained by his bedside and made medical decisions pertaining to his health since he was first found unconscious last Tuesday, Oct. 13, in a Nevada brothel.
On Wednesday, Oct. 21, Kardashian’s lawyer Laura Wasser went before a judge and requested to have the couple’s divorce filing — signed this past July by both parties but still awaiting a judge’s signature — withdrawn. Kris Jenner then confirmed the news that afternoon, and said the situation was “Nothing but love.”
Like Jenner, Mercer is equally enthused that the two were giving marriage a second shot. “As a family, we will remain united in our love and devotion to Lamar’s health and well being. Again, that is our NUMBER ONE priority,” his aunt reiterates in her statement to Us, while expressing full support for Odom and Kardashian’s reconciled marriage.
“In SINCERELY loving Lamar, we truly love and respect whomever he loves,” Mercer concludes. “We always have and will continue to do so. Together as a team, we will support and encourage him always.”
