"I've never had the honor of coming here before…to bring something to the table, which is starting fresh for me," Lohan said during a press conference. "It's a nice change to be back among people that are in the industry that I've been in since I was a kid."

She continued: "It's therapeutic for me to throw myself into something that really excites me and something that I love to do so much. There's nothing better than having seen all of your ideas and thoughts that you've been thinking about to come to fruition and to share that with people. I think that's why I've always loved making movies so much. So it's nice to be able to have another position in the film rather than just showing up and being on the set."

Lohan attended the event with the film's producer and financier, Randall Emmett, who noted the red-head as "one of the greatest young actresses of her generation." The Lionsgate project, said to be a thriller, will begin shooting in March. Audiences "are going to really be shocked when they see Lindsay take this role on," Emmett added.

In Lohan's announcement, which was filmed for her upcoming Oprah docuseries, the star also commented on feelers she's been sending out to fellow actors about joining the film. "I even approached Juliette Lewis and was emailing some other people," she said, adding, "I don't know if she would do it, but I would die if she did: Jessica Lange."

Lohan completed a court-mandated 90-day stint in rehab last July. She's since appeared on an episode of Eastbound & Down. In her last film, The Canyons, director Paul Schrader admitted he was happy he was finally "free" of her during an appearance at the Venice Film Festival last August.
