Bug Hall has come a long way from his hair-slicking days as Alfalfa.
Born Brandon Rowan, the former child star shot to fame playing the lovelorn crooner in 1994’s The Little Rascals remake. Hall later appeared in The Big Green, Honey, We Shrunk Ourselves, Hercules, Skipped Parts, The Stupids and Get a Clue. Hall briefly returned to the Little Rascals universe in 2014’s direct-to-video The Little Rascals Save the Day, playing an ice cream delivery man.
Hall, whose most recent credits include This Is The Year (2020) and Cabrini (2024), has since traded Hollywood for an 80-acre plot in rural Arkansas, a campervan and a self-described “vow of poverty.”

Bug Hall Identifies as a ‘Radical Catholic Extremist’

In a January 2026 interview with the Daily Mail, Hall opened up about reinventing himself as a “radical Catholic extremist” who is “raising extremists” in his five kids. Hall, who has been married to Jill DeGroff since 2017, said the couple homeschool their children and plan to “strongly discourage” them from attending traditional school or college, which Hall called “nonsense.”
Their family lived between Texas, Michigan and Ohio before settling in rural Arkansas, where they live in a campervan outfitted with a water well and generator. Hall’s younger brother, Gemini Barnett, their mother, Twila, and their stepfather, Mark, also relocated to Arkansas.
Amid the move, Hall donated most of his possessions and savings to take a self-imposed “vow of poverty.”
“If there’s a financial need that comes up, I’ll go take some work or do an odd job for cash to fulfill that need,” he added to the outlet.
Bug Hall Has Been Arrested Twice
Hall was arrested in Weatherford, Texas, in 2020 after a family member called 911 asking authorities to check on him during a visit with his parents. Police found him inside a hotel room surrounded by air duster cans and booked him on a misdemeanor possession charge for use/inhalation of a volatile chemical. He was released the next day on a $1,500 bond.
Nearly six years later, Hall was arrested in April 2026 in Marion County, Ohio, after failing to show up for a December 2024 court date tied to a traffic citation for driving without liability insurance. He was charged with failure to appear. (Hall was ultimately released from police custody without receiving a sentence.)
Hall later claimed he faced no charges for either arrest, but the incidents became the catalyst to leave the entertainment industry behind.
“I didn’t want to go work some job that was basically meaningless, making widgets to entertain people or distract people,” he told the Daily Mail.
Bug Hall Launches a GoFundMe Ahead of Welcoming Baby No. 6
Hall and DeGroff announced in November 2026 that they are expecting their sixth baby. To prepare for the little one’s arrival, Hall also launched a GoFundMe campaign that raised $9,000 at the time of publication.
“It’s now six years since I self-cancelled, and I have avoided doing one of these in all that time,” Hall wrote via the fundraising page. “I always said this was my choice, and so I didn’t want to offload the glorious burden of it unless there was no other choice. Well here we are.”
He added, “We’re all overjoyed to be where we are, and we’re even enjoying roughing it, but baby six is less than a month away, and I really need some help getting the last few things buttoned up beforehand.”
