Maria Bello opened up to Us Weekly and other reporters about her perception of love, after confirming to Us this past week that she has moved on from her relationship with ex-girlfriend Clare Munn, and found herself a new boyfriend, Elijah Allan-Blitz.
Bello, 48, caught up with Us at the UCLA Institute of the Environment and Sustainability’s Celebrates the Champions of Our Planet’s Future event on Thursday, March 24. “I’m feeling very girly these days! How about that?” the actress, wearing Henri Bendel jewels, said. “Maybe it’s getting to a particular age or dropping into myself or having written my book and feeling like that first part of my life’s over there and walking out into the next part of my life.”
In 2015, Bello released her book, Whatever…Love Is Love: Questioning the Labels We Give Ourselves, and in it detailed her unconventional relationship journey. “It was a difficult process and hard for the people around me as well,” she said of writing her book. “But in the end, the message — the whatever ‘love is love’ and the fluidity of love in relationships — affected so many people.… These modern families that we all have, and the fluidity of sex and relationships, and to be able to share that with the world and make people feel not so lonely anymore is a great thing I got to do.”
The McFarland, USA star added: “My family and friends were really supportive of the book, but there’s a lot revealed in it. My own journey with my family and with my friends and with my religion and with my sexuality … putting it all on the page. But there’s something about doing that and then putting that to the side like I said, and stepping forward into the second part of my life.”
Bello’s rep confirmed to Us this week that the actress is now dating Allan-Blitz, 29, a virtual reality director for mindfulness teaching. “They complement each other and care about the same things. They are a good match,” her rep said. The two were first friends before making it official in August 2015. Prior to Allan-Blitz, Bello was in a relationship with Munn, the subject of her talked-about 2013 New York Times essay, “Coming Out as a Modern Family.”
On Thursday, Bello added that she’s in a very good place in life. “I am happy,” the Lights Out actress said. “I’m really happy.”
