Not such a great match after all! Tennis pros Maria Sharapova and Grigor Dimitrov have officially called off their two-year relationship, Dimitrov confirmed during a press conference on Friday, July 24.

“Our paths split,” he told Bulgarian media of what led to their breakup. “We experienced wonderful moments together. I wish her much happiness and success in life and in tennis.”

“Now I’m concentrated entirely on the game and I’m sure the results will soon be seen,” he added. “This is the summer of the new beginning of me.”

At present, Dimitrov is ranked No. 16 in the ATP rankings.

Sharapova, 28, and Dimitrov, 24, first began dating in 2012. They didn’t go public with their romance until May 2013, when the pair was spotted kissing on the streets of Madrid, where Dimitrov was playing in the Madrid Open.

The couple’s decision to split comes just weeks after Sharapova’s loss to Dimitrov’s ex-girlfriend Serena Williams at Wimbledon.

In an interview with the Financial Times this past May, Sharapova gushed about her tennis beau.

“It’s nice to have someone who really understands and respects [what I do] and who knows the drill,” she said of their power couple status. “There are so many little variants in an athlete’s career that are not always easy to explain to the outside world. So it is nice that they are aware of it and know it.”

Sharapova previously dated fellow tennis pro Andy Roddick, and was engaged to NBA star Sasha Vujacic in 2010 before the pair quietly called it quits in 2012.
