Marion Cotillard’s Boyfriend Guillaume Canet Calls Brad Pitt Affair Rumors ‘Stupid’ and ‘Unfounded’

He’s standing by his woman. Marion Cotillard’s longtime love, Guillaume Canet, took to Instagram on Friday, September 23, to let fans know that he thinks the Brad Pitt affair rumors are “stupid.”

“I don’t usually make it a habit to comment on rumors made about us,” the 43-year-old actor-director wrote in French, alongside an enlarged picture of a “danger” road sign. “I also don’t usually talk about my private life which until now I’ve always protected attentively … But the fury of the tabloids, the venal stupidity of some people calling themselves journalists, the haters who feel braver behind a keyboard, drive me to speak of the pride, love, and respect and admiration I have for Marion staying as strong and intelligent in the face of all these stupid and unfounded accusations.”

“I think we’re all living with much more important things at this moment and now it’s time to move on and raise the bar a bit,” he continued. “Even if there’s so much work for some, I want to be positive. And as Marion said so well, ‘I hope you get better and aspire to something in your life than constantly sending s–t!’”

“This is going to be my first and only reaction to the whirlwind news that broke 24 hours ago and that I was swept up into,” the Allied star captioned a stunning image of a single bird flying over speckled stars.

“I am not commenting on things like this nor taking them seriously but as this situation is spiraling and affecting people I love, I have to speak up,” she continued. “Firstly, many years ago, I met the man of my life, father of our son and of the baby we are expecting. He is my love, my best friend, the only one that I need.”

Earlier this week, news broke that Angelina Jolie had filed divorce papers to end her two-year marriage to Pitt, 52 — and Cotillard’s name was brought into the headlines not long afterward. (She and Pitt costar in the upcoming spy thriller Allied.)

Cotillard and Canet have been dating for nearly 10 years and were friends for more than a decade before their relationship got romantic in 2007. They costarred in the 2003 dramatic comedy Love Me If You Dare and 2009’s The Last Flight. (Canet was previously married to Diane Kruger from 2001 to 2006. Kruger went on to date Joshua Jackson, but the pair ended their 10-year relationship in July.)
