Martin Sheen is recovering from heart surgery. His son, actor Emilio Estevez, opened up about his father’s condition on Thursday, December 17.

“My Pop! Successful proactive quadruple bypass surgery this week!” Estevez, 53, captioned a photo of Sheen, 75, via Twitter. “A great Blessing indeed!”

In the pic, the West Wing actor is giving the thumbs-up as he sits in his hospital chair. He partially hides his face behind a heart-shaped pillow.

Estevez also revealed that Sheen had the procedure at a Los Angeles hospital over the weekend. “The decision to operate on his heart was a proactive one, not an emergency situation,” he wrote on the official Facebook page for their film, The Way of the Movie.

“With my mother Janet and our family by his side and under the coordination of his extraordinary team of cardiologists, doctors and nurses, my father displayed great courage, strength and humility as he took on this challenge,” he continued. “Not surprisingly, he is recovering beautifully, out of the ICU and is expected to not only be home for Christmas, but be 100% by the time he returns to work on season three of the Netflix series, ‘Grace and Frankie’ early next year. Please lift him up and keep him in your prayers.”

Sheen was visited at the hospital by his youngest son, Charlie Sheen, as well. A source tells Us Weekly that the Anger Management actor, 50 — who recently revealed he’s HIV-positive — joined Estevez at the hospital on December 14.

Martin and his actress-producer wife married in 1961. They have four children — Emilio, Charlie, Ramon, 52, and daughter Renee, 48 — and 10 grandchildren.
