Miley Cyrus may be called a lot of things — wild, outrageous, unfiltered — but Melissa Rivers insists that the singer is nothing short of “a gift.” During an interview with HuffPost Live on Thursday, Sept. 10, the Fashion Police co-host explained that Cyrus exemplifies what fashion should be about.

“That was like a gift,” she said of the wide swath of colorful, barely there outfits the performer wore for her gig as VMAs host on Sunday, Aug. 30. “I almost felt that my mother [the late Joan Rivers] gave me her blessing by giving me Miley that night.”

The outspoken red carpet and TV host added that while the 22-year-old singer’s outfits left little to the imagination, they added just the punch of pizzazz the show needed.

“First of all, her body just makes me want to kill myself because it’s ridiculous,” Melissa, 47, said. “[And] she walked on that red carpet and it was like a blast of energy.”

“That’s what we love on Fashion Police,” she continued. “We love the ones that are beautiful, we appreciate the beautiful artistry of fashion and the way things are made and constructed and crafted. But you also want …Cher, you also want Bjork, you also want Miley.”

Melissa added that the excitement of Cyrus’ costume changes are due in large part because “it’s so off the wall and she’s working it. That’s what we love. That’s the whole point. Fashion is fun.”

It was announced in June that Melissa would be joining Fashion Police as a co-host after years of serving as an executive director on the show her hilarious mom hosted until her death a year ago. She will join fellow co-hosts Giuliana Rancic and Brad Goreski.
