UPDATE: Big Ang died early Thursday, February 18, hours after the false reports of her passing on Wednesday, according to a statement from Vinnie Medugno.
Mob Wives star Big Ang is not dead, contrary to multiple reports on Wednesday, February 17. According to her rep, the reality star is still alive.
“This is a representative of Angela’s personal social media. The news that has been reported is TOTALLY INACCURATE. Please respect her family, and their privacy at this time," a tweet from Big Ang's Twitter account said late Wednesday. "All of the media outlets currently reporting this are reporting FALSE INFORMATION. No direct information has been given, and will not be given any time soon. Angela is still in the hospital surrounded by her loved ones, and is fighting. Thank you.”
As previously reported by Us Weekly, Big Ang, whose real name is Angela Raiola, was diagnosed with throat cancer last year in March, and after undergoing two surgeries, she thought she was in the clear. This past December, however, she was stunned to learn she had stage IV brain and lung cancer.
"It's shocking what happened,” Raiola recalled to Dr. Oz during an interview that aired on Tuesday, February 16. “First I thought I was cancer-free and I was gonna have a big celebration, have a party, and then a month later I [had] stage IV [cancer].”
The 55-year-old has had her family to lean on, aside from her husband, Neil Murphy. Raiola told Dr. Oz during her interview that that she didn’t feel she had Murphy’s support during her battle.
"I felt like he never stepped up to the plate, so I was done with it," she explained of their split. "I would rather be by myself."
Since her latest diagnosis, Raiola’s family has raised more than $45,000 via a Go Fund Me page to help pay for her medical bills.
