Yup, it's true!
In an appearance on the Late Show with David Letterman — taped Monday, airing this Friday — Nicole Richie confirmed her engagement to Joel Madden (who Tweeted the news Monday night.)
"You're not married yet, is that correct?" Letterman asked Richie, 28.
"We're not married," she replied.
"Are you engaged? Are you planning to get married?" Letterman asked.
"We actually recently are engaged, yes," she replied.
"Oh, congratulations, that's nice," Letterman said. "A lot of people will have children and then they don't want to rush right into the marriage — you know, they wait 'til the kids get out of college, then they get married."
Yet on Tuesday morning, Richie's lips were sealed during an appearance on Live with Regis and Kelly.
Richie chatted with Regis Philbin and Kelly Ripa about her new jewelry line and her baby son Sparrow — but didn't address boyfriend Joel Madden's Tweet announcement. ("Yep. i'm engaged. Very happy," Madden, 30, wrote late Monday). Although no engagement ring was visible during her Tuesday appearance, the star was photographed in NYC on Monday wearing an enormous new rock.
Richie gushed to Ripa and Philbin about five-month-old Sparrow. “He's a boy," she said. "He's five months old. He's humungous. He's 16 pounds."
She also explained the unusual name selected for their son: "Joel and I have very different tastes in names. We really just have to work with whatever it is we both agree on, so I really liked Sparrow from Captain Jack Sparrow, and he liked it for different reasons…we call him Row."
Sparrow's older sister is Harlow, 2. "I didn't even realize that [both of their names] ended with 'ow.' I love the name Willow, and now that’s out because I’m not gonna have all kids with 'ows.'"
A source told UsMagazine.com Monday, "Nicole and Joel are in the process of planning the wedding. She's very involved in every detail. She's thrilled." The pair are planning for a summer wedding.
