Better late than never! Nikki Reed shared an incredibly sweet note on Instagram to her husband, Ian Somerhalder, on Friday, Dec. 11, wishing him a happy birthday. The Sleepy Hollow actress, 27, went well beyond a simple greeting, though, and gushed about her love for the Vampire Diaries star, who turned 37 on Dec. 8.
“You are my every dream brought to life. With our hands pressed together I know that we will always find our way home. You are a gift to this world, a teacher of light and a student of love,” the Twilight alum captioned the photo of an illustration of the words “I Love You” with two birds smooching. “You radiate warmth in vibrant reds and deep orange hues. I often wonder what it would be like to see autumn arrive through your eyes. Here is to the next 65 years together, holding hands, strolling through the woods, still learning, still listening. Happy happy birthday…I love you.”
The lovebirds, who married in April this year, are known for their love of nature and animals. The former Lost star even launched the Ian Somerhalder Foundation, which aims to educate people on protecting animals and the environment, on his 32nd birthday in 2010.
“My goal and Nikki’s goal in life is literally — my goal in particular — is to build four profit entities that will literally feed our necessary non-prof initiatives till the end of time,” the actor told Us Weekly in July. “We definitely share that passion together in a very huge way.”
Reed and Somerhalder started their relationship as friends, then began dating in 2014. The pair got engaged after six months of dating. This is the actor's first marriage, and the actress' second. She was previously married to American Idol Season 10 contestant Paul McDonald.
